Ruaha National Park

Ruaha National Park

The park is reached from Iringa ,112km(70miles), via Mloa (by-passing Idoli), and across the Ruaha River by ferry within the park at Ibuguziwa. From Dar-es-Salam to the park is 621km (386 miles), by way of Morogoro and Iringa.
Perhaps Ruaha's greatest charm is the fact that it is a completely unspoiled African wilderness. Its future potential is very great and of all the East Africa fauna it preserves it is the park of the future. To visit it before it has been further developed is a unique experience.

There is an impressive array of game animals in the Ruaha National park. It is the largest Elephant sanctuary inTanzania, and it is the only East Africa park where one may be certain of seeing and photographing Greater Kudu. Among the carnivora Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Hunting Dog, Spotted Hyena and Bat-eared Fox are all possibles.
Bird life is abundant and the park is one of the few places in Africa where the rare raptorial Eleonora's Falcon may be encountered: migrating flocks have been recorded in December and January. The brachystegia woodland is the home of Dickinson's Kestrel, Violet-crested Turaco, Pale-billed Hornbill and Racquet-tailed Roller. Along the more heavily wooded sections of the Ruaha River is found the giant Pel's Fishing Owl.
