The journey from Nairobi to Masai Mara is a popular and breathtaking adventure in Kenya, offering travelers the opportunity to experience the country's diverse landscapes and wildlife. The Masai Mara National Reserve is located approximately 180 to 280 kilometers (112 to 174 miles) southwest of Nairobi, depending on the specific route you take. The journey typically takes around 5 to 6 hours by road. Then proceed to Narok, a small Masai town well known for having the most beautiful souvenirs. Proceed to Masai Mara for lunch at the permanent tented camp/ Lodge, followed by an afternoon game viewing to see the many animals that inhabit this unique park. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight at your booked lodge/ camp.

Day 2: Fullday Masai Mara Game Reserve

A full day in Masai Mara promises an exciting and immersive safari experience with diverse wildlife, stunning landscapes, and memorable activities. Your day begins with an early wake-up call, usually before sunrise. This is to maximize your chances of spotting wildlife when they are most active. After breakfast, you experienced Grayton Expedition driver guide will be waiting for you in your customized safari vehicle for a full day of adventure. This is an excellent time to witness predators on the hunt, as well as to see various herbivores like zebras, wildebeests, and giraffes. As the sun rises over the savannah, you'll have opportunities to spot the Big Five, which include lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinoceros. You may also see cheetahs, hyenas, and a wide range of bird species. If you visit during the Great Migration (usually from July to October), you might witness the dramatic river crossings of wildebeests and zebras at the Mara River. This is a spectacle you won't forget. Back at your accommodation, you'll have dinner, which is often a buffet or a set menu featuring both local and international cuisine. After a full day of adventure, you'll retire to your comfortable room or tent for a well-deserved night's rest, listening to the sounds of the African wilderness.

Day 3: Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru

Embark on a dawn adventure with an early morning game drive within the Masai Mara Game Reserve, where we eagerly seek out the majestic big cats as they return from their nocturnal hunts. Marvel at the mesmerizing sunrise, capturing breathtaking photos of the animals as they graze upon the expansive savannah grasslands. Following this exhilarating outing, we retreat to the campsite for a hearty breakfast, complete our check-out procedures, and bid farewell to the Masai Mara as we make our way towards Lake Nakuru. Along the way, we pause for a delightful lunch break. Upon our early evening arrival at the Lodge or Hotel, we complete the check-in process, affording us the opportunity to relish a tranquil evening at our leisure, indulging in a delectable dinner, and enjoying a restful overnight stay.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru- Samburu National Reserve

Begin your day with an early morning game drive within the captivating Lake Nakuru National Park. Here, you can witness the mesmerizing sight of flamingos and various water birds thriving in their salt-water habitat. With a stroke of luck, you may also have the opportunity to track the rare white rhino and the endangered Rothschild's giraffe, both of which are precious species in need of protection.

This park, covering an area of 188 square kilometers, serves as a habitat for an array of wildlife, including majestic big cats such as lions and leopards, as well as various antelope species, and the charming warthog. The park's ecosystem also hosts water-loving creatures like the waterbuck and Cape buffalo, which often breed near the shoreline of the lake.

After the exhilarating game drive, we bid farewell to Nakuru and embark on a journey to Samburu, passing by the scenic Thompson Falls along the way. These falls are named in honor of Joseph Thompson, one of the early European explorers who undertook the remarkable journey on foot from Mombasa to Lake Victoria in the 1880s. Our lunch stop will be at Nanyuki, nestled at the foothills of the majestic Mount Kenya. As evening descends upon us, we reach Samburu and continue our adventure with a game drive en route to the lodge. After a delightful dinner, you can retire for the night in the comfortable lodge accommodations.

Day 5: Samburu National Reserve

Full day in Samburu with morning and afternoon ‘Spice’ game drives. You may see Elephants, Cheetah, Leopard, Eland, Oryx, Impala, Dikdik, Waterbuck and a variety of birds. This lava plain includes a varied landscape of red dirt, thorn scrub, broken volcanic rock, dried river beds, steep hills and rocky outcroppings.

Following the river’s curves, a forest of Doum Palms, Acacia and tamarind is a magical contrast of cool green. Other areas of the Reserve include the Ewaso Nyiro River where crocodiles sunbathe themselves on the banks. It also provides an oasis for a variety of game.

Birds are abundant, with 365 species recorded, one for every day of the year. In between the game drives, there is an opportunity to visit a Samburu village at an additional cost.
